Marine Plate Type Heat Exchanger | High Efficiency & Compact

High efficiency heat exchanger made of stacked corrugated metal plates. Features small volume and light weight. Corrugated design enhances turbulence, significantly improving heat transfer efficiency.

  • High Heat Transfer: Heat transfer coefficient is 3-5 times higher than shell and tube heat exchangers.
  • Space Saving: Occupies only 1/2 to 1/3 of the space required by shell and tube types.
  • High Recovery: Heat recovery rate can reach up to 90% or more.

Overview

Plate heat exchangers transfer heat through a series of stacked corrugated metal sheets. Gaskets separate the plates, creating independent flow channels. Hot and cold fluids flow between adjacent plates, exchanging heat through the plate walls. Corrugated surface design enhances structural strength and increases fluid turbulence. This results in significantly higher heat transfer efficiency. Compared to shell and tube types, it offers advantages like small volume, light weight, and resistance to scaling. Modular design allows for easy expansion of heat exchange area by adding or removing plates.

Why Choose Our Marine Plate Heat Exchangers?

  • High Efficiency: Corrugated plates enhance turbulence for better heat transfer.
  • Compact & Light: Small footprint and low weight, ideal for limited spaces.
  • Easy Maintenance: Simple disassembly makes cleaning and inspection easy. Gaskets require periodic inspection and replacement. The plate sealing gaskets can adopt a glue free snap on design to reduce maintenance costs.
  • Flexible Expansion: Heat exchange area adjusts by changing plate count. Modular design allows for easy expansion of heat exchange area by adding or removing plates.
  • Precise Channels: Independent flow paths prevent media mixing.

Structure and Working Principle:

The plate heat exchanger is composed of corrugated metal plates, a fixed plate, a movable plate, upper and lower guide bars, and clamping bolts.

Working Principle

The metal plates are installed in a frame with a fixed plate and a movable pressing plate, and securely clamped with bolts. Two different media flow through the flange holes on the fixed (or movable) pressing plate into their respective channels formed by the corrugated plates. After heat exchange, the media flow out from the flange holes. Sealing gaskets are installed on the plates to seal the liquid channels and guide the fluids to flow alternately into their respective channels. The metal plates and movable pressing plate are suspended on a carrying bar and positioned by a lower guide bar, both of which are fixed to a support column.

Design Optimization & Cost Saving

Corrugation Angle Matching: A reasonable matching of the plate corrugation angle can significantly improve the heat transfer effect per unit area, adjust liquid resistance, and save heat transfer area. As a result, it directly reduces investment costs and shortens the return on investment time.

Extensive Applications in Marine Systems:

  • Main Propulsion System: Controls temperatures for lubricating oil, jacket water, and fuel systems, ensuring engine stability.
  • Auxiliary Power Generation System: Similar to the main propulsion system, it ensures the efficient operation of auxiliary power units beyond energy output.
  • Fresh Water System: Utilized as seawater condensers and jacket evaporators for high efficiency desalination and fresh water production.
  • Refrigeration System: High performance evaporators for cold storage rooms and condensing units within the vessel’s refrigeration cycle.
  • Fuel Injection System: Heats fuel using steam to ensure precise atomization and significantly reduce sulfur oxide emissions.
  • Steam Turbine Unit: For vessels powered by steam turbines or turbo generators, heat exchangers are vital for maintaining turbine performance and ensuring smooth navigation.
  • Central Cooling: Expertly adapted to the demanding requirements of two stage heat exchange.

Installation & Maintenance:

Installation: Inlets and outlets are typically on the same end, simplifying piping.
Maintenance: Disassemble plates for thorough cleaning. Gaskets require periodic inspection and replacement.

Need something specific?

Plate patterns can be selected from herringbone, straight, or zigzag corrugations to match specific fluid characteristics.

FAQ :

Q1: Do plate heat exchangers clog easily?

A1: No. The special corrugated design on the heat transfer plates creates strong turbulence even at low flow rates. This turbulence has a self cleaning effect that prevents scaling and fouling. Furthermore, if cleaning is required, the unit is very easy to disassemble.

Q2: How do I choose the right plate pattern and gasket material for my marine application?

A2: The selection depends entirely on your specific working conditions. The liquid’s flow rate, physical properties, pressure drop, and temperature difference determine the plate size and quantity. Plate patterns can be selected from herringbone, straight, or zigzag corrugations. For gaskets, we offer NBR, EPDM, and FKM, covering temperature ranges from -55°C to 230°C based on the chemical properties of the fluids.

Q3: Is it expensive and time consuming to maintain the gaskets?

A3: Not at all.To reduce operating and maintenance costs, our plate sealing gaskets can adopt a glue free snap on design. This makes it incredibly easy to replace gaskets during routine maintenance without the need for specialized tools or adhesives, minimizing your vessel’s downtime.
